Due to concerns about cracking the iconic instrument, the Liberty Bell has not been rung since 1846. Instead, every year, to mark the Fourth of July, the 2,000-pound bell is tapped 13 times to signal for bells across the country to start ringing.

Independence Day is celebrated two days late. The Second Continental Congress voted for a Declaration of Independence on July 2nd, but the written document wasn't edited and approved until July 4th, and that was the date printers attached to announcements sent out across the land. July 2nd was soon forgotten.

Q: I workout with weights and run several times a week. I have very tight, sore muscles and find myself taking a lot of pain relievers such as ibuprofen. Will incorporating a massage regimen into my current program alleviate my problems and allow me to get off the meds?

A: Massage is a great way to not only relax, but to treat muscle stiffness and spasms associated with exercise. You can also use essential oils rubbed directly on the skin to help the muscles further relax. These can be used during treatments in the spa and at home between visits. Already noticing blemishes from your recent fun in the sun? Check out these tips to eliminate imperfections and reveal healthy, glowing skin!

  • Exfoliate! This is one of the best ways to remove dry skin cells. But, not just any exfoliating cleanser will do. Many over the counter brands contain ingredients that are too harsh for delicate skin. Your best bet is to visit the spa and let us pick one just for you!
  • Hydrate! One of the easiest ways to keep your skin healthy and looking flawless is from the inside out. Be sure that you are drinking enough water, especially as temperatures rise.
  • Moisturize! Just because it is summer doesn't mean your skin doesn't need added moisture. Pick a lightweight moisturizer with an SPF of at least 30 to apply under your make-up before heading out the door.
  • Facial! If ever there was a time to get a facial, this is it! Visit Jazmin, Laura or Teresa and let your esthetician work their magic. While you're at it, listen to their recommendations for at home treatments and masks to keep your skin glowing and healthy.

And, of course, defend yourself against the sun's harmful rays. It's okay to play outdoors, but don't forget your hat, sunglasses, and most importantly... lots of sunblock.

Broiled Red Snapper with Ginger-Lime Butter
Enjoy snapper season with this delish dish!
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon minced seeded jalapeno pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lime rind
  • 1/4 teaspoon bottled fresh ground ginger (such as Spice World)
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 4 (6-ounce) red snapper or other firm white fish fillets
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray
  • Lime wedges (optional)

  1. Combine first 5 ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Stir in 1/4-teaspoon salt. Cover and chill.
  3. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Sprinkle both sides of fish with the remaining 1/2-teaspoon salt and black pepper.
  5. Coat pan with cooking spray.
  6. Add fish to pan; cook 3 minutes on each side or until fish flakes easily
  7. Place 1 fillet on each of 4 plates, and top each serving with 1 1/2 teaspoons butter mixture.
  8. Serve with lime wedges, if desired.
